Commercial Products

The system uses modular, low capital cost, long life components which can be configured for specific application. It is readily deployable in most locations.

Product 1: Cryo Energy System, which is our fully integrated unit, including a liquefaction plant, expected to range in size from 5MW and upwards.

Product 2: Cryo GenSet consisting of a liquid nitrogen tank and a containerised power recovery unit – (up to about 8MWs). Tanker delivering liquid air/nitrogen as required.

This enables Highview to service the full market from utility scale arbitrage and grid balancing services to occasional use peaking/back-up plants.

Cryo GenSets are more likely to be deployed closer to the end user (i.e. sub-station or on-site) and where operational times are limited and capital cost is a key driver. Primary use would be to provide zero-emission alternatives to diesel gensets/open cycle gas turbines.

Comparison to other Storage Technologies
Pumped hydro storage is the gold standard for energy storage, especially for truly large scale. But it is geographically constrained; is capital intensive, and given the size and locations, projects take many years (often decades) from concept to first operation. At the other end of the scale, NaS and Lithium-ion batteries are highly efficient, but use advanced chemistries or scarce materials, are expensive and can suffer shortened life in certain discharge cycles.
While there is the absolute demand for utility energy storage, there are, in reality, limited commercial technologies which are not geographically constrained; robust; affordable, but still scalable to tens/hundreds of MWs.
