Many industrial processes waste energy in the form of heat. For instance, power stations lose 45-60% of energy in this form. Generally, the heat is left as waste because it is not sufficiently hot to make it worth recycling (e.g. less than 200 Celsius).
Our working fluid is liquid air, which boils at -196ºC; ambient temperature will therefore superheat it. Any heat which can be added above ambient will enhance the work output from the cycle. Our system can therefore use low grade waste heat and convert it to more power (electricity) out of the system.
Three potential market opportunities for system integration;
- Fast response but high exhaust temperature peaking stations;
- Bio-mass/Waste to Energy;
- Industrials – major, untapped opportunity from chemical companies to heavy industry to food manufacturers.
