Applications

Large Scale Energy Storage – Highview’s technology offers the opportunity to store, or ‘bank’ in significant volumes ‘wrong time’ energy and time-shift it to periods of peak demand. This is critical to enable the use of intermittent renewable power (e.g. wind or solar) when the customer needs it, not just when it is available.

Deployment of Highview’s novel technology solutions will enable (i) more efficient use of energy resources, in particular renewables; (ii) reduced dependency on fossil fuels, and (iii) the transition to cleaner, smarter and more capital efficient electricity systems. Specifically, Highview’s technology provides utilities with a cost-effective, environmental alternative to conventional gas and diesel peaking power plants for managing peak demand and grid reliability.

Highview’s system has no to geological constraints, uses readily available components with a mature supply chain, and is comparable in cost to other large scale storage technologies.

How Highview ‘banks’ and distributes ‘wrong time’ energy

Waste heat to Power - Below about 200°C, waste heat from utility and industrial processes is only really cost-effective for hot water or heating given the capital investment in plant. Application of our system can use waste heat (including low grade heat normally only suitable for hot water and heating) from co-located processes to enhance the power output.
Power & Cooling - The process also liberates cold when operating, which can be available to provide cooling to co-located processes (e.g. a data centre), reducing peak load.
