Highview can design and develop large scale Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) plants ranging from around 5MW output and 15MWh of storage capacity to significantly more than 50MW output and 200MWh of capacity. In addition to storage, Highview systems can utilise industrial waste heat/cold from applications such as thermal generation plant, steel mills and LNG terminals to improve the systems’ efficiency.

At the request of commercial customers (UK and abroad), multi MW commercial reference plants are currently being designed for a number of services including: supporting intermittent renewables, helping to manage peak demand and also delivering security of supply. Two pager: Pre-commercial unit

Highview and project partners, Viridor, were awarded funding from the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) to design and build a 5MW Pre-commercial Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) technology demonstrator. The £8 million of funding will support the design and testing of the LAES pre-commercial demonstrator alongside Viridor’s Pilsworth landfill gas generation facility in Greater Manchester, UK. In addition to providing energy storage, the liquid air plant will convert low-grade waste heat to power from the onsite GE Jenbacher landfill gas engines.
